SHOAC
SHOAC = anagram oft he word CHAOS – net.art project from 1996-2001
Nobody (few people) did net art before 1996. So nobody knew what and how to do that.
We just started during media art studies in Leipzig.
I dived deep into production with html, scripts and the recycling (upcycling?) of all the content waves including trash&spam which are defining the internet as a medium.
The project was continued at my teaching assignment at Accademia di belli art/Venice, Italy (2000)
digital content got to physical space 2 times:
in 1998…
people could send images through an online interface to a needle printer in a room installation showing extracts oft he shoac website.
At some moment the printed paper reached a photoelectric barrier and the light turned off.
the demonstration of the online content in physical space was finished (printer printed for around 48 hours before the light turned off)
… and in 2001

During the last five years, the Internet project “Shoac” was created at the address shoac.com. Shoac is an anagram of the word „chaos“.
Today shoac is to be destroyed.
to dissolve his existence, shoac materialized on a wall:
the lettering shoac.com consists of diskettes on which the entire amount of data that could be seen at the internet address shoac.com is stored.
The disks are released for launch.
The gun is available.
Behind the destruction of shoac.com is the contrast between virtual and physical reality.
Today’s action shows the contrasts:
Data for the virtual reality as opposed to floppy disks hanging on a nail.
The network address shoac.com in contrast to the lettering shoac.com that can be seen.
The delete button on the computer as opposed to the trigger on the rifle.
The rest are questions:
What knowledge -e-(processes) arise from the contrast between virtual and physical reality?
Are the opposites fundamental or just different appearances of a single reality?
Can shoac survive after his annihilation?
As a memory in the imagination?
As „shoac 2“?
As a destroyed floppy disk that the successful shooter takes home?
Or does the shooter settle all these questions with his hit?
